CITIZEN – Celebrating 20 years Official Timekeeper of the US Open Tennis Championships

Citizen proudly sponsors the US Open Tennis Championships for the 20th straight year since its collaboration began in 1993.

As one of the oldest international tennis championships in the world, the US Open began on the grass courts in Newport, Rhode Island in 1881. Today, its modern hardcourt serves as the fourth and final major tennis tournament of the Grand Slams each year. The US Open is among highest attended annual sporting events in the world with more than 720,000 visitors, and is broadcast in over 180 countries.

In conjunction with this 20th anniversary celebration, Citizen is making a donation to USTA Serves Incorporated, whose mission is to support, monitor and promote programs that enhance the lives of at-risk children and individuals with disabilities through the integration of tennis and education.

The significance of the championships gives Citizen the opportunity to share in the international athletes’ passion for sports achievement and competitiveness. Like the professional players themselves, Citizen watches require precision timing and accuracy to deliver consistent champion-quality performance. In a sport whose matches are often decided by split-second timing, it takes a world-class watchmaker to keep pace and lead with exacting standards.
