What happens to the Wear OS by Google app (on smartphones) after December 2025?
For Android devices:
- The Wear OS by Google app will no longer be discoverable on Google Play™ store for new users on devices running Android 14 or higher.
- Existing users who have previously downloaded the app can continue to discover, re-install, and use the app on any Android OS version supported by the app.
- New users who have not downloaded the app before, please refer to the section "How to pair the P990 smartwatch" for further information.
- Unless there are critical issues, there will be no further updates for this app.
For iOS devices:
- The Wear OS by Google app remains visible and discoverable in the App Store.
Will connectivity between the smartphone and smartwatch continue to be supported?
Yes. Data such as notifications and incoming calls will continue to be supported over smartphone to smartwatch connections (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi over cloud sync, or Wi-Fi over cellular network) for existing Wear OS 2 devices (P990).
Will smartphone information continue to be delivered to watches?
Yes. Existing apps on the smartwatch and the smartphone will be able to sync and transfer data (such as Google Account login, Contacts, and Location) over smartphone to smartwatch connections (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi over cloud sync, or Wi-Fi over cellular network).
Will the Google Play Store app on the smartwatch continue to work?
Yes. The Google Play Store app on Wear OS 2 devices (P990) will continue to work. Users can continue to use the app on their smartwatch to search for and download third-party apps, and receive updates to installed apps.
Will there be changes to other apps?
Unless needed, no changes are expected for apps such as Weather, Google Pay™, and other third-party apps.
How to pair the P990 smartwatch

Install the Wear OS by Google app.
iOS:
Please install the app via the App Store.
Android:
Please download the file below and follow the instructions below:

- Find the "app_774567588.APK" file. Select it to initiate the installation. Any file explorer will do.
- You’ll receive a warning at the screen of the smartphone letting you know that you must give that app permission to install the file.
- Tap the Settings button to proceed.
- On the next page, you’ll be asked to allow the app (where you store the downloaded APK file) to make APK installs. Toggle on Allow from this source.
- A prompt should pop up, giving you the option to Install the app. Go ahead and follow the instructions to install.
Note: In case you experience an issue while installing the app (error: "App Not Installed/App Blocked To Protect Your Device"), please try turning off/pausing Scan App by Play Protect via the Google Play store. Refer to the link here for further instructions and explanation. Instead of turning off the feature, you can select "Pause" to stop the feature for 24hrs.
How to pair your smartwatch
To pair a touchscreen smartwatch with The Wear OS by Google app, please ensure the following steps are completed.
- Your smartwatch and smartphone are both fully charged.
- Your smartwatch is not paired with your current phone or any other smartphone(s) nearby via Bluetooth prior to the pairing process in The Wear OS by Google app (this step is very important).
To unpair: Open your phone's Settings → Connected devices/ Bluetooth → Select the watch name if you see it in the list → Forget/Unpair the device. - Your smartphone is connected to the Internet (mobile data or Wi-Fi).
- For Android smartphone users Enable Location Permission and Location Service (this step is important).
Location Permission: On your phone → Settings → Application → Wear OS by Google app → Permission → Enable Location Permission
Location Service: On your phone → Settings →Turn on Location Service
Once you have completed the above checks, proceed to the next step.
- Turn on your smartwatch.
- On your smartphone, open the Wear OS by Google app.
- Tap Set it up.
- On your smartwatch, to choose a language and accept the terms of service, follow the on-screen instructions.
- On your smartphone, follow the on-screen instructions until you find the name of your smartwatch.
- Tap the name of your smartwatch.
- You'll find a code on your smartphone and smartwatch.
- To finish, follow the on-screen instructions.
If the codes are the same: On your smartphone, tap Pair. This can take a few minutes.
If the codes are different: Restart your smartwatch and try again.
Tip: When your smartphone and smartwatch successfully connect, you'll find "Connected" in the Wear OS by Google app. When they're not, on your smartwatch's screen, you'll find Disconnected.
