Urushi dial

CAL.Y513

Beniake

Richly layered lacquer and powdered silver evoke the deep red glow of the sun's dawning light.
Technology and tradition are fused together in this lacquered dial model. To ensure a tight bond between lacquer and metal, a high-precision electroforming process is used to create an intricately patterned metal base for the face. Five layers of lacquer are then applied by hand, the surface is dusted with powdered silver, and a thin layer of iridescent red lacquer is applied to fix the powder in place. The silver in the center of the face is then polished with charcoal, and the entire face is polished with whetstone powder. To finish, another layer of iridescent red lacquer is applied and polished until the face shines with a rich, jewel-like glow.
