CITIZEN Sponsor the US Open Tennis Championship as Official Timekeeper for 21 Straight Years.

CITIZEN celebrate a sports milestone of sponsoring the US Open Tennis Championships for over two decades. Now in its 21st year, CITIZEN proudly remain the official timekeeper for the international competition.

Representing one of the oldest international tennis championships in the world, the US Open began on the grass courts in Newport, Rhode Island in 1881. The event has grown to become an international pinnacle for athletic style, performance and precision, and is among the highest attended annual sporting events in the world, with a global audience reaching to over 180 countries.

In conjunction with this event, CITIZEN plan to make a donation to USTA Serves foundation, whose mission is to support, monitor and promote philanthropic programs that enhance the lives of disadvantaged children and other individuals with disabilities through the integration of tennis and education.

Furthermore, CITIZEN will donate to the Harlem Junior Tennis & Education Program, whose mission is to introduce tennis to youths from underprivileged inner-city neighbourhoods. CITIZEN will also host a youth clinic at a tennis court in New York.

The significance of the championships gives CITIZEN the opportunity to share in the athletes’ passion for sports achievements and competitiveness. Like the professional athletes themselves, CITIZEN watches require precision timing and accuracy to deliver consistent champion-quality performance. In a sport whose matches are often decided by split-second timing, it takes a world-class watchmaker to keep pace and lead with exacting standards.

One such innovation that sets CITIZEN apart from competitors is its proprietary science called Eco-Drive — the game-changing technology that powers watches using any natural or artificial light source, without ever needing a battery change.
Fueled by light. Any light. A watch that never needs a battery.
