Making a good thing better
Customers are delighted when their brand new watch comes in a nice little gift box. But most people have nowhere to store the empty box and feel bad about just throwing it away. The knowledge that some of our customers felt like this inspired us to launch Eco Tree ACTION in Japan, a project which replaces watch boxes with mangrove seedlings.
A choice with consequences
Here’s how it works. If a customer selects the “no box” option when purchasing a CITIZEN brand watch, we team up with NICE, an international NGO, to donate one mangrove seedling for each watch purchased. Ten thousand of these boxes, which are mostly made of paper, are equivalent to 1.3 tons of carbon dioxide. Our mangrove seedling project is designed to get the largest possible number of people to make a conscious decision to help the Earth’s natural resources last longer.
