Watch strap Length Adjustment and Replacement

Adjusting the bracelet length

Metal bracelets

You can have the length of a metal bracelet adjusted either by asking the store where you purchased your watch, or by contacting a Citizen Authorized Service Center.

In the case of the following types of watch strap, you can also adjust the length yourself.

Type 1: Watches that no longer form a circle when unclasped

The watch bracelet separates into 2 parts, and you can then adjust the clasp on one part to any position (mesh watch bracelet, etc.). This type is referred to as a "sliding clasp”.

Type 2: Watches that still form a circle when unclasped

These watch straps feature a push-button used to open the clasp that secures the fitting, and can be freely adjusted. This type is referred to as a "fold-over push-button deployment type”.

Type 3: Adjustable links with the mark on the back

You can adjust the length of these watch bracelets by using the dedicated tool or a thin metal pin (paper clip, etc.) to remove links from the bracelet.
This is called "simple adjust" type. For your reference, the video shows the method using the dedicated tool. Refer to the manual, you may use a paper clip instead of the dedicated tool. ("Simple Adjust" instruction manual)
* Be careful when handling paper clip or similar tool, as they can easily slip and cause injury. For your reference, the diameter of suitable paper clip is roughly 0.8 mm, and the total length of most such paper clip is about 20 mm.

Type 4: Jewelry clasps

This type of watch bracelet consists of multiple opening and closing clasps that you can use when putting the watch on and to adjust the watch strap length at a single touch. This type is referred to as the "one-touch adjustment type”.

Watch Leather Straps

Depending on the type of clasp, some leather straps must be adjusted for length by setting the clasp position before you put the watch on.

Type 1: Watch leather straps with a fold-over deployment clasp

These leather straps feature a push-button used to open the clasp that secures the fitting, and can be adjusted by selecting a hole in the leather watch strap on one side of the fitting. This type is referred to as the "fold-over push-button deployment type”.

Type 2: Watch Leather straps that open at both ends

On these leather straps, push-buttons on each side of the clasp that secures the fitting open both sides of the clasp outward. The length is adjusted by selecting a hole in the leather watch strap on one side of the fitting. This type is referred to as the "push-button butterfly type”.

Special watch straps

Buckle-type (where the watch strap is too short)

This type of watch strap uses hook-and-loop fasteners which fasten by overlapping with a nylon watch strap to which a buckle is attached. You can adjust the length of the nylon watch strap.
